Jill Figueiras - Candidate for Member "At Large"

Jills Personal Statement
In 2022, my husband encouraged me to audition for the Sound of Music. I had not performed in a production since 1996, and was very excited. The PWLT has been very welcoming to me. I have felt safe in learning and trying new things. I have served on the board of PWLT for the last two years as member at large. I am hoping to bring a fresh perspective to this group, as well as broaden my own experience. Thank you for your consideration.

Jill's Bio
I live with my husband in Manassas. We moved to Quantico in 1978, and I am a graduate of WSHS, c/o 1986. The summer before my senior year, I worked at the Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre. I was totally and completely in love with the idea of 'dinner & a show'. While I never performed at the theatre, I enjoyed my summers there. I graduated from JMU with a BS in chemistry, even though I began my career as a music education major. I was in the flute and oboe studios, and performed with the Marching Royal Dukes for three years. After graduating, I worked in an electron microscopy lab for 3 years while attending GMU getting my MEd in curriculum and instruction. I started teaching high school in 1993. I did the occasional show here and there, Shenandoah with TAP and The Sound of Music (CAST of McLean). After that I started working in the evenings, and theatre was out of the picture. When Carlos and I started dating in 2016, an old flame came back: I fell in love with the theatre again. I am currently working on my fifth show with PWLT and hope I will be able to return to serve on the Board as a Member 'At Large'.
