Andrew Harasty - Candidate for Technical Director

Andrew's Personal Statement
Picture
A few years ago, I retired from a profitable IT career and turned towards my passion in theater. I started off on stage getting my bearings of the DMV theater scene. And then after I casually mentioned that I wanted to get back into theater tech, specifically lighting design, I found myself working both on and off stage. Now it is time to take my next step and help with the running of a company as part of their board.

Most of my work has been out in Rockville and Gaithersberg, mostly due to the happenstance of where I ended up being cast. But I have longed to start working closely with much closer groups. Last summer I saw the PWLT production of “Oliver” and was blown away with it, and said to myself, this is a group worth looking into. So when Chaz needed a lighting designer for “Stickfly” I quickly submitted my references to him and PWLT as I had worked with Rockville Little Theater’s production a year before. Now I am excited to be part of the cast of PWLT’s “110 in the Shade.”

Aside from lighting design, I have always lent a hand to help with set construction and painting. As well as finding myself one of the last to leave for strikes. Over my life, I have at least touched every aspect of technical theater, though not enough to be an expert everywhere, but enough to know how to work with the experts.

I would be excited and honored to devote myself to PWLT’s board as their Technical Director
