Elena Thompson is the PWLT Volunteer of the Month for November
Elena has been a steady and committed presence with PWLT since 2019. Helping with many different aspects back stage and with production support, she has been the master of creating and managing programs for PWLT for all our productions for several years. PWLT spoke to her about her experience.
How did you first become involved with PWLT?
I became a supporter of PWLT when my husband was originally cast in Sister Act in 2019.
What is your theatre experience outside of PWLT?
I have always been a behind-the-scenes supporter with creating props, painting sets and one year, a WATCH judge.
Program Layout and Design is one of those necessary tasks for every show that doesn't get a lot of attention. Can you take us through what is involved in making a program?
Do you have a few hours?
What kinds of skills do you need in order to be good at program design?
In a nutshell, project management, graphic design skills, software knowledge and a lot of patience.
What do you do in your life outside of designing programs?
I design more programs. I am a senior graphic designer for the Marketing Brand and Creative team of the American Red Cross National Headquarters—creating designs from a simple web banner to an entire national campaign while maintaining the brand.
I spend most of my free time with my two amazing grandchildren, Mason and Grayson who are my everything!
