PWLT is seeking exciting productions for the upcoming season. Are you ready to direct/produce for us? This is what we are looking for:
PWLT embraces art with various themes, characteristics and cast types. But in general, PWLT productions are: family-friendly, inclusive, attractive to older demographics, have name recognition, and above all are exciting. PWLT desires diversity in casting, but especially desirable characteristics for casts include ensembles, roles for older actors, and childrens’ roles. Aspects to be avoided are nudity, excessive mature content, politically controversial material, or audience appeal that is too niche in nature.
The season will have 4 productions in Summer (July), Fall (October), Winter (December) and Spring (March). All productions will take place at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in the Gregory Family Theater. Generally, our season is comprised of two plays and two musicals. The Winter play, generally, is holiday themed.
How do I apply?
Complete the application form as completely as possible. The more detail you can provide, the greater consideration your submission can be given.
We will not consider a submission by anyone other than the proposed director or producer. All shows must have a director attached and it is highly recommended to have a producer attached. Budgets are important considerations, but we do not expect that you will be able to submit a precise budget proposal. Instead, please comment on any notable expenses for any category, i.e. large number of specific costumes, special rentals, expensive set pieces, etc.
Please submit the link to the licensing web site, including the specific version you are interested in submitting. Many popular scripts have widely varied versions that can make a great difference in our ability to produce.
I just submitted, so what happens now?
The play selection committee will accept submissions through the end of March, 2025. Starting in April, the committee will review submissions, read scripts, and reach out to directors for questions and interviews. By July the committee will provide the selections and alternates to the board for review. In August final selection and securing of rights will occur. Once rights have been secured (which can take weeks or months), directors will be notified of the decisions regarding the season.
